Sermons- First Corinthians

The book of First Corinthians, like so much of scripture, speaks to the church today in many ways. The city of Corinth in Paul's time was a Roman colony and major trade center known for its brazen decadence. It was in this thoroughly pagan culture that Paul (and a few other followers of Jesus) planted a church. The church grew quickly and was blessed with God's grace, but it also struggled with significant issues. The letter known as "First Corinthians" was one of many Paul wrote to this young, growing church in response to the problems and issues that they faced. The challenges in the Corinthian church are mirrored in our modern culture. Some of the things Paul addressed include: disunity, sexual immorality, doctrinal integrity, unhealthy relationships, and worldly wisdom. There is much more that the Spirit will challenge us with including the nature and proper use of spiritual gifts, dealing with conflicts within the church, and personal holiness. Pray that together, we will listen to God's truth revealed in this challenging letter.
